In 2022, we held an International Symposium that brought together a summit of governments, where parliamentarians from the three countries reaffirmed their commitment to regional integration. As a result of this event, the “ITÁ CHARTER” was drafted, advocating joint actions for the preservation and conservation of the basin’s waters, considering the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the principles of the Earth Charter, and the fact that the basin constitutes a natural system of unique and indivisible management, from its sources to its mouth at the Rio de la Plata. The Uruguay River is therefore considered the river of integration for the peoples of Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay.
