In 1995, the Common Market Group agreed to the creation, within its structure, of Working Subgroups to continue promoting the integration of the States Parties in different areas. Among them, SGT No. 6, Medium, was established. (GMC Res. 20/95). The general objective of Working Subgroup No. 6 (SGT No. 6) is to guarantee the protection and integrity of the environment of its State Parties (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela). It is a technical body of the MERCOSUR structure. Its task is to promote sustainable development, through actions that guarantee the transversality of environmental issues in the integration process, promoting effective, economically efficient and socially equitable environmental measures. SGT No. 6 is made up of representatives of the national environmental organizations of the States Parties, in the role of National/Alternate Coordinator.
Both MERCOSUR environmental forums address different topics, including competitiveness and the environment (sustainable production and consumption), environmental waste management and post-consumer responsibility, biodiversity, environmental management of chemical substances and products, fight against desertification and the effects of drought, climate change, environmental emergencies, and others. On our website, public and private organizations, the sectors of work and academic activity, civil society and any interested citizen will be able to access the information corresponding to the activities of the Meeting of Ministers of MERCOSUR and SGT No. 6.
