FOCEM has proven to be a successful driver of integration and economic development in the MERCOSUR region. Until September 2023, the States Parties of MERCOSUR have converted their contributions into non-refundable financing for 51 projects, generating significant improvements such as 790 km of roads, 600 km of railways, access to drinking water for 93 communities, social housing, spaces improved educational services, contributions to the fight against diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease, and a research network in biotechnology applied to health.
In the current global situation, there is an opportunity to capitalize on the accumulated experience and pose new challenges for the growth of the FOCEM as an essential instrument of MERCOSUR, capable of promoting integration and energizing the bloc’s economies.
Having spent more than 32 years of MERCOSUR activity, FOCEM has gone through a 17-year trajectory, providing valuable experience and positioning itself as a unique instrument of “south-south cooperation” in the region.
